Legless on Christmas day.

Legless on Christmas day.

The best xmas present I could of had.Going for my usual wildlife walk on Christmas before dinner.I came across this little beauty,it's not a snake or a worm but a legless lizard,a slow worm.It was on the dirt track of Roydon common,a minute later & it would have been quashed by a 4X4 that went through.I picked it up,checked it over,it seemed healthy no teeth marks or cuts on it but noticed that it was starting to shed its skin.Chances are that with the mild weather it has come out of hibernation a couple of months early.I put it under some moss, leaves & bark for it to hibernate again before the frosts come.Checked it today,it was fine & added some more layers.I heard from another guy in the village & he said his cats have brought two in,as they have woke up early, they live for up to 20 years lets hope this one lives that long.
