Thank you Susan & Dudley for your nice comments. I heard the woodpecker before it was seen. It was hopping about the lawn and I managed to creep behind some shrubs un-noticed and managed some shots.

BRIAN SHREEVE commented on "The Bittern" 2018-05-26 8:50pm

Thank you Liz & Susan for commenting. After many visits to RSPB Strumpshaw I have noticed a recent lack of bird life and care of the Fen. I decided to venture to new pastures, RSPB Lakenheath Fen. I was blown away at the facilities. Visitor centre, Care of the reserve. Easy walkways, the Mere Hide and walkway suspended above the water. Viewing areas. Two hours on site, Kingfishers, 4 Bitterns, 3 Hobbies, Cuckoos, Marsh Harrier, warblers etc. Will be back soon.
Well worth a visit.
Kind regards Brian
