I arrived at RSPB Strumpshaw Fen at 7.30am. I was alone and could hear the loud distant noise of starlings chattering in the reedbed. It was barely light. A marsh harrier flew a few feet above the reed bed and I could not see clearly but believed the starlings had taken off. I took the photo across the distant reeds at a slow shutter speed but pleased with the image of thousands of starlings as they take to the air.

It was too dark Liz. I believe the best time is at dusk when they do their flying bit before settling in the reed bed. This was early and it was over in seconds, they dispersed into small groups and disappeared.
Kind regards Brian
