Big Dance was the ultimate dance experience in 2012. This biennial festival featured 9 days of dance in unusual spaces throughout the UK – shopping centres, parks, galleries, and lidos - showcasing the diversity of dance styles in the capital and across the country.
Big Dance took place across the UK from the 7th-15th July 2012 and included a 7-week countdown period as part of London 2012 Festival - the finale of the Cultural Olympiad. Big Dance is London’s Legacy Trust UK programme and was initiated in 2006 by the Mayor of London in partnership with Arts Council England.
ASHS student John Robinson was delighted to take part. John belongs to DanceEast which is the Big Dance Hub for the region, they coordinate activity across Suffolk, Norfolk, Essex, Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Essex and Peterborough with 16 partners!
On Thursday 5th July, Dance East tand took a group of young people from the DanceEast Academy to the Big Dance Public Launch which took place at St Pancras Station, London where they were visited by Arlene Phillips and Boris Johnson, who joined in the dance class.
