Caister on Sea resident Warren Sparkes last week undertook the biggest challenge of his life when he ran the Virgin London Marathon. Warren completed the historic 26.2 mile course in a time of 5 hours 40 minutes and 17 painful seconds! Having never run before, he shed over a stone and a half in weight and was joined by his brother Russell to make it a real family occasion. Warren, of Jimmy Brown Close and is a governor at Caister Infant School, made this event a personal challenge after turning 40 in October. To provide extra motivation, Warren has raised nearly £2,000 for his friend's charity, The Indee Rose Trust, which provides boxes full of goodies to seriously ill children. Asked about running the Marathon, Warren said "I knew the marathon would be tough, after all I hadn't signed up for crochet knitting course! 18 miles onwards was tough and I would like to thank everyone who sponsored me to run, the money raised was a huge incentive to get to the finish line. " If you would like to make a donation, it's not too late, you can donate at www.virginmoneygiving.com/team/sparkes or contact Warren on 01493 721 899.
