GRAFFITI DISGRACE

I took this photo in Sprowston yesterday, but really it could have been taken virtually anywhere in Norwich, as virtually every one these cable TV cabinets has been scrawled on. No one bothers, no one comes to clean it off, despite reporting it. Just why should we put up with and whose responsibility is it to remove it?

I'm all for street art and such. This is, as stated, mindless vandalism.
I love Norwich, I hate to see my adopted home(from Bedfordshire here since '90)abused like this. I recently had my garage door "Tagged2 by "laz". Let me just say in all honesty, when I catch him/her they will need the services of a proctologist to recover their spray can. I'm so angry about this

I never said laz and shook are artists, and I don't miss anything outta life I have 3 beautiful children in my world, a loving partner and you have no Idea what I do for a living, I also have my art lol

well after reading all these comments its a bit of a joke realy. you have to be blind as a bat if you cant tell the diffence between some idiot painting a cable box and a artist painting a wall.. kids with pens and cans are making our city look like a dump, but artists with talent are making the city look nice.. if they feel the need to go and tag something thwey should go and tag there mum and dads front door or something. AND CAN YOU PLEASE TAKE NOTE OF THE WORD ARTIST,,, because the idiots tagging phone boxs, post boxes etc etc are not and are just a pain, and should go to college and learn how to draw properly

Lol how dreadfully open minded of you, and it's exactly that kind of reaction that evokes the provocation in the first place. How about donating the money you spend on phone calls and internet usage to a worthwhile project to stop it happening? You have no idea who these people are and what they do at any other time you just focus on the fact they've written their name on a bt junction box.

The only place LAZ and his counterpart SHOOK should be dong their decorating is behind the walls of Norwich prison, as they have defaced most of the city and it's suburbs.

I wasn't stating that this is art, I was merely drawing attention to the fact that there are significant links between tagging and graffiti and why taggers tag. And the fact that people complain but never actually approach the argument that there are not enough opportunities for artists to work on walls legally and without reprimand. Norwich has long since been advertised as a city of culture and diversity, but it seems only if it suits the majority.

I'm not trying to start an argument but I feel I need to comment as I assume no tagger will, firstly if you do your research tagging has been the traditional way to have your self recognised in what largely is an "underground" culture, many taggers are infact not mindless idiots and kids with pens and cans, but accomplished graffiti artists, I appriciate that it is illegal, but that's the way it is, there are not enough legal sites in norwich to work on so people do it other places...you say you want to change things but have either of you mentioned the stickyfingerz project? Street art can be incredibly beautiful and thought provoking and bare in mind that any tag can belong to a very talented being that only wants to be recognised for their art.

Yes I can see some merit in what could be described as street art in the right place, but this kind of thing is unsightly and done by idiots.
