Pure Laziness. How many recycling centres are there in the county? People caught flytipping need to be fined and given community service in the form of collecting litter from our streets

Actually that is exactly at the bottom of our garden and therefore on our doorstep, and I hadn't seen it due to the miserable recent weather. People often dump stuff in that spot and also on the Gilman Rd track just around the corner. I suppose they don't want to pay to use the dump.

Mattress on Your Doorstep

I saw this image a few hours ago on this site and had a good think about fly tipping.

As I am a keen walker I get to see a fair amount of this. It always makes me feel so ryald because I do not understand it. The question you have to ask yourself is WHY people feel the need to do it.

Let’s just say I wanted to dump a mattress. I would have to decide where I like to do this fly tipping. Do you think that the first place I would leave it is on my own doorstep? No way!

So the question is – ‘Why wouldn’t I dump it on my own doorstep?’ The answer – ‘Because I wouldn’t want to look at it, or walk on it whilst entering or leaving my house’.

I wonder if this might be one of the top reasons as to why people dump things away from where they live. The ones that do this possibly have respect for their own surroundings but may have none at all for anywhere else that is beyond their personal border.

One idea that could help to stamp out fly tipping is to form a relationship with the environment. Spending time walking in the Cities, towns, villages, countryside, woodlands and along the coast can really have an effect on your personality; The way we see things and the way we feel about things.

I never was too much of a ‘Careless’ kind of person, but I most certainly wasn’t as keen on my environment as I am today. My endless passion for the countryside and my enthusiasm for walking has led me to start my own free walking group. This enables me to show others how amazing it is to get in touch with nature and by doing so they will undoubtedly get in touch with themselves.

Once you fall in love with your environment, you will do nothing at all to harm it.
