Local emerging artist Kirsty O’Leary-leeson who was featured in the EDP and North Norfolk News for her appearance in the popular BBC 2 Programme ‘Show Me The Monet’ has two drawings currently showing at the Norfolk Contemporary Arts Exhibition at The Forum.
Her episode of SMTM aired last Friday (you can still catch it on BBC iplayer) and she was a resounding success, with huge praise for her art and to her and her bank balances relief she made a fantastic sale.
She says “ The whole experience was really interesting and although a bit nerve-wracking great fun. The Private View was brilliant, I’ve never seen so much alcohol! My husband Jamie partook fully, however after a nasty incident some years back with a friends home made wine, I’m practically teetotal, so I remained sober. The aim of the night was to sell and we had been instructed to as far as possible stay next to our artwork and sell ourselves. I initially found this difficult, being shy to approach people, after a few glasses of wine Jamie abandoned me to embark on a new career as an art critic, and I decided rather than stand there like a lemon I would just pounce on anyone who stood in front of my drawing for more than a few moments. I’m quite happy to chat about my work and I soon got into the swing of it, people seemed to really like to hear about ‘what it all meant’ and seemed more engaged with the piece afterwards.
I wasn’t too nervous about the ‘big reveal’ as during the evening a very debonair gentleman came up to me and asked whether I had had any bids, I told him I wouldn’t find out until the following day, so he whispered to me, ‘well you know you’ve got one now’ so it was with relief that I knew I had at least one offer.”
